ON GOING ADULT CLASS: Oil Painting

Weekly Sessions, 4 sessions Thursdays 6:30-8:30pm

This ongoing workshop focuses on the individual, helping them to develop their own personal style and technique working with the oil medium. Learn how to develop your painting by understanding drawing and composition, light and shadow, color, preparation of materials and the application of paint. Working at your own pace, you pick your subject while the instructor guides you through the painting process.

Instructor: John McAllister is a graduate of York Academy of Arts and works as a freelance artist and videographer.

ON GOING ADULT CLASS: Acrylic Painting

Weekly Sessions, sessions Mondays 9:30-12:30pm
April Classes: April 8,15,22 and 29

This class will focus on increasing fundamental painting skills, including composition, use of value and color, a basic understanding of the Color Wheel and how to achieve desired effects using acrylic paints. Students may utilize Photographs, reproductions of other paintings or set up their own still life.

Instructor: Will Daskal simply loves to paint and to teach others. His work is shown at ARTSPACE Gallery and he has had many solo shows throughout the Pocono Area. He studied with William Wentz and Dan Van Horn at the Baum School of Art in Allentown and also with Din Andrews, Tom Lynch and Ron Ranson.

ADULT: Mixed Media

April 8, 15, 22 and 29, Mondays, 6:30-9:30pm

This class will concentrate on increasing fundamental painting skills using a variety of aqua-painting media (watercolor, acrylic, gouache, water-based oils, colored pencil, water soluble pencils, etc). in various combinations, with textured papers and other materials, regardless of the current level of the student, The focus will be on the individual needs of each student. Will demonstrates all techniques and principals that apply to the painting being worked on before the students attempt it on their own. Students may use photographs, reproductions of other paintings or set up their own still life. The atmosphere of the class is friendly, non-threatening, nurturing and conducive to student interaction and continued progress. ALL LEVELS OF SKILL ARE WELCOME, ADVANCED TO BEGINNERS!

ADULT: Collage to Colograph: Mixed Media & Printmaking

3 weeks, April 13, 20, 27, Saturdays 1-3pm

This workshop will teach you to turn found objects into bas-relief plates for rubbing and inked printmaking. Experiment with repeat patterns, resist techniques, hand-coloring and other embellishments. Options for larger works and book arts will be explored.

Instructor: Claire Marcus has been a rostered teaching artist for the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts since 1996. She holds an MFA in painting and a BA in Architecture from the University of Pennsylvania.
Claire has taught community arts programs for Allentown Mayfair, Banana Factory, Celtic Culture Alliance, including residencies for adjudicated youth.

ADULT: Introduction to Pastel Painting

4 weeks, April 9, 16, 23 and 30, Tuesdays, 10am-1pm

This class will be an introduction to drawing techniques using Pastels. We will be exploring the medium, thinking about composition, color and approach using pastels. This is a wonderful medium for sketching and exploring color! Try something new or build on your current knowledge of pastels.

Instructor: Iraina Caramelli graduated from the Parsons School of Design in NYC and also studied fine and graphic art at Pratt Institute. Iraina works in a number of mediums including mixedmedia, acrylics, pastels, etc. Iraina is listed in the Who’s Who of American Women.
Her work is included in numerous private and corporate collections and she is represented by the Morgan Gallery in Blakeslee , PA.

ADULT: Botanical Art – Flowers with Blubs Workshop (1 day)

April 3, Wednesday, 10am-2pm

This watercolor painting class focuses on the scientific style of portraying the flower. The flower in bloom, i.e., tulips with bulb, will be the subject with detailed studies to enhance the project. Be your own Maria Sybilla Merian! All Materials supplied. Wear old clothes and bring a snack!

Instructor Jean Perry has painted and taught studio art and art history for many years. As an instructor to students from grammar school through university and continuing education, she has encouraged an appreciation and joy for art. Jean’s philosophy is that art comes from the heart and that there is something in art for everyone!

ADULT: Oil Painting Workshop (One Day)

April 11, Thursday, 10am-4pm (lunch break at 1pm)
This workshop will begin with a painting demonstration in which the artist will display various techniques that the students can utilize in creating their own work. All levels of skill are welcome! At the end of the workshop each student will go home with a completed piece. Paints and brushes will be supplied. Each student should bring a 16”x20” canvas to class. Also, please bring a lunch to enjoy! known and respected artist and art teacher in the Pocono region. Suzanne has taught kindergarten to high school in private and public schools in NYC, New Jersey and the Pocono Region for over 30 years. Suzanne earned a degree in art education from Indiana University in Bloomington , Indiana.

Instructor: Jill Swersie has been teaching oil painting classes to adults for over fifteen years. She also provides art lessons to both children and adults in her home studio. Her whimsical and colorful paintings of people and animals appeal to many art collectors, as does her traditional still life paintings and landscapes.

ADULT: How to Play Guitar

One Evening, May 6, Monday 6-9pm
This course is for those that want to play guitar and need a place to begin or for those that already play and are looking to get to the next level. Topics include chords, melodies, picking and strumming, playing along with other people, accompanying yourself while singing. For electric and acoustic guitars. BEING ABLE TO READ MUSIC IS NOT REQUIRED! All that is needed is a guitar and a pencil and notepad!

Instructor: Spencer Reed, guitarist and vocalist, has been performing continually since 1972. Spencer toured with the USO throughout the Caribbean and Panama and after freelancing in NYC, settled in the Poconos. Spencer has accompanied many popular singers such as Billy Ekstein, the Fifth Dimension, Robert Goulet, Sergio Franchi, Frankie Lane and Bobby Rydell. Spencer is currently the guitar instructor at Blair Academy in Blairstown , NJ and also maintains a private teaching schedule.

ADULT: Basic Matting & Framing

One Evening, May 15, Wednesday 6-9pm
or One Day, May 16 Thursday, 10am - 1pm

This three hour class will serve to introduce the beginner on how to cut professional looking mats for their photographs or paintings. The presentation will include a review of materials and equipment available and how to measure and cut mats to fit commercially available frames. The demonstration will be followed by a hands-on session which will result in a complete matted and framed piece of artwork, ready for hanging.

Bring your own photo to mat and an appropriate frame no larger than 16x20”. Mat cutting tools for use in class and mat board in various colors will be supplied.

Instructor: Gordon Perry has taught various undergraduate and graduate level biology courses at Fairleigh Dickinson University in Madison , NJ for many years. He is also a photographer who has taken his scientific background into the creative world. Concentrating on nature and history, Gordon has won numerous awards for his photography and has a number of his works published in magazines, calendars and books. Gordon has over 15 years experience in matting and framing.

Audubon was right to capture our beautiful birds! Bring the color of our migratory birds of Spring into a work of art in watercolors. Learn about avian structure and basic planning for your artwork. Use photos from nature magazines, books or your own photos. Papers, watercolors and pencils supplied, as well as photographs
